Map the warm world before Scarlet Deer Inn turns downward

Scarlet Deer Inn Village Locations

The village is the emotional baseline of Scarlet Deer Inn. Hand-painted streets and embroidered neighbors teach you what “normal” looks like before Karel’s cellar and the pit rewrite it. Use this page to orient landmarks while playing the Opening Village walkthrough.

Inn and yard loop

Start by learning the inn as a hub. Elise’s identity as mother and innkeeper makes this loop more than a spawn room. Child scenes with Kuba — including the Horace request — usually radiate from here. Recenter on the inn whenever errands scramble your sense of direction.

Collectible tip: shelves and outdoor edges around the inn are prime early toy banking. See toys.

Dorota’s errand geography

Dorota sends you across practical village space. Instead of memorizing abstract compass points, memorize sequence landmarks: fence corners, wash lines, storage walls, short stair pairs. Errands are a movement tutorial wearing a social costume.

If you lose the active errand, return to Dorota, then retrace only the last completed landmark — not the whole map.

Cake delivery triangle: Karel, Otto, Lada

Cake deliveries create a triangle (or three-point star) of residential and work spaces:

  • Karel — points you toward apiary destiny; mark this route twice
  • Otto — everyday neighbor texture; good torch-practice streets
  • Lada — completes the social circuit and keeps you circulating past optional interactables

Deliveries are also where many players accidentally skip shelf toys because their hands are full of story purpose. After each handoff, do one slow torch-optional sweep if lighting is dim indoors.

Church and Father Johannes

The church is the village’s moral loudspeaker. Father Johannes scenes load Slavic folklore tension into architecture and dialogue. Even if you are not here for lore, note the path from inn to church — fear later travels recognizable roads.

Optional deeper read after the scene: Noon Witch folklore.

Oak tree landmark

The oak tree is a chapter hinge more than a park attraction. It marks the shift from errand completeness toward Karel’s darker invitation. Mentally save here: “village tasks done, apiary next.”

Next guide: Karel’s Apiary.

Paths toward the apiary

You should be able to walk to Karel without tutorial prompts by the time cakes are done. If you cannot, replay the cake route once with the explicit goal of memorizing turns. Underground shortcut literacy starts with this surface habit — see find shortcuts.

Atmosphere reading for location hunters

When colors are warmer and spaces wider, you are in care geography. When compositions tighten and audio narrows, you are approaching horror geography. The village contains both near the apiary edge.

NPCs as moving landmarks

People are part of the map. If you cannot find a place, find a person who belongs to it. Expanded cast positioning notes live in Inn NPCs.

Village completion checklist

  • Horace thread understood at the inn
  • Dorota errands completed
  • Cakes delivered to Karel, Otto, and Lada
  • Church visit done
  • Oak tree reached
  • Early toys logged in the collectible tracker

Why return later (if you can)

Post-pit revisits, when available, feel different. The same painted walls carry Noon Witch dread. If you clean collectibles after the story, expect emotional friction; that is why early banking is kinder.

The village is not a prologue disposable zone. It is the life the underground spends.

Weather and time-of-day reading

Even without a complex survival meter, lighting and palette shifts in the village telegraph when the day still belongs to errands and when dread is leaking in from Karel’s direction. Trust those paints; Attu Games uses them as soft signage.

Sound landmarks

Learn a few audio landmarks: inn bustle, church quiet, apiary insect bed. When you are lost, listen before spinning the camera. Sound often identifies the district faster than another sprint loop.

Optional revisit mindset

If you return after learning underground rules, village doorways become practice thresholds — torch up out of habit even in daylight interiors. That habit transfer is free skill.

Sharing directions without spoilers

When guiding a friend, use landmark language (“past the cake stop toward Karel,” “church then oak”) rather than ending language. Keep Noon Witch names out of village tech support.

Village-to-caves mental bridge

Before you enter the apiary for real, stand at the oak tree and recite the cake triangle once. If you can, your brain is ready to build brazier hubs later in Caves.
